No. Maverick Combatives welcomes complete beginners. Classes are structured so you can learn at your own pace, whatever your starting point.
You'll be welcomed by Russell, introduced to the basics and guided through the session alongside other students. There's no pressure to know anything in advance — just come along and give it a try.
Comfortable, loose-fitting sportswear and trainers are ideal. No specialist clothing or equipment is needed for your first session.
Not for your first class. If you decide to continue training, we'll let you know what's useful to have as you progress.
You don't need to be fit to start. Classes are designed to build your fitness, confidence and ability over time, whatever level you're starting from.
Classes are suitable for ages 11 and up. Younger students train alongside age-appropriate groups where relevant.
Yes, from age 11 upwards. Training focuses on confidence, awareness and practical self-protection in a safe, structured environment.
Safety is a priority in every class. Sessions are taught with a strong safety-first approach, and instruction is delivered by a qualified, DBS-checked instructor.
Yes, parking is available at both our Plymouth and Torbay venues.
We run classes in Plymouth and Torbay/Paignton, with students also travelling in from surrounding areas across South Devon.
Details of ongoing membership are explained once you've attended your first class, so you can decide what suits you with no pressure to commit upfront.
