What Equipment Do You Need for Krav Maga?

One of the most common questions from new students is what they actually need to bring to their first class. The good news is, very little — Krav Maga is refreshingly low on kit, especially when you’re just starting out.

For Your First Class

You don’t need any specialist equipment at all for your first session. Comfortable, loose-fitting sportswear and a pair of trainers are all that’s required. There’s no need to buy anything in advance — just come along and see how you find it.

As You Progress

Once you decide to continue training, a small amount of basic equipment becomes useful. This typically includes hand wraps or gloves for pad work, and a gum shield for certain drills. None of this is required from day one, and we’ll let you know what’s genuinely useful as you move through your training.

What You Don’t Need

There’s no requirement for a uniform or grading belt system, unlike many traditional martial arts. Krav Maga focuses on practical skill rather than formal ranking, so you won’t need to invest in specific kit just to take part.

Where to Get Equipment

If and when you do want your own gear, we stock a small range of training equipment and protective kit through our shop, including gloves, wraps and mouthguards suited to the training we do.

Getting Started

The simplest way to find out what you need is to come to a class. Bring comfortable clothing, trainers and an open mind — everything else can wait.
